So you are curious about the state of the cloud in 2015? So are we.
For a true assessment of cloud adoption rates over the years, few reports have been as useful as Right Scale’s aptly named State of the Cloud Survey. Covering trends in public, private, and hybrid cloud adoptions, how central IT is taking the reins by brokering cloud services, and more, this annual survey is a valuable resource for service providers and enterprises alike.
As Data Center Knowledge notes in its analysis of the report, the State of the Cloud this year is positive. Cloud technology, especially hybrid cloud, has continued gaining momentum year-over-year, and based on this report, it seems that 2015 is no exception.
Here are a few of the more notable takeaways from Right Scale’s 2015 State of the Cloud Survey, via Data Center Knowledge:
- More than 90% of survey respondents are on the cloud, yet 68% of enterprises are running less than one-fifth of their application portfolio on cloud infrastructure
- 82% of enterprises have a hybrid cloud strategy, up from 74% last year
- 88% of organizations use public cloud, compared to 63% that use private
Perhaps the most interesting takeaway from the 2015 survey is how much room there is to grow in the space. The survey suggests that most enterprises run less than 20% of workloads in the cloud, although most enterprises’ application portfolios are built with cloud friendly architectures. As Data Center Knowledge notes, “cloud continues to shift from an alternative to core part of the strategy.” Whereas a few years ago cloud was an add-on to enterprise IT strategies, today, it’s gaining momentum as a central element of IT.
While we’ve been reporting on the growth of the cloud for some time here on our blog, Right Scale’s 2015 survey reinforces the value of Telx’s continued investment in the cloud.
