Data centres are the backbone of the economy in our digital world. In fact, Statista estimates that data centre IP traffic will grow to 7,726 exabytes per year by 2017. When you consider that an exabyte is equal to one billion gigabytes, that's a pretty astounding amount of information flowing through data centres all over the world.
The actual flow of data is only one part of what makes the world's data centre ecosystem so interesting, however. A new infographic by Data Centre World looks at many of the other factors at play, ultimately addressing what challenges IT professionals will face in the coming years if they want to keep pace in an accelerated environment.
Here are a few of the infographic’s most interesting findings:
- 26% of cloud-based workloads are almost exclusively private, whilst only 6% are almost exclusively public
- Most data centre professionals report that less than one-third of their applications have cloud availability
- The worldwide software as a service (SaaS) market is forecast to grow 20.2% annually
- Of those companies without a disaster recovery plan, 93% that experience a significant data loss are out of business within five years
Keeping pace in an accelerated environment takes an excellent awareness of what’s changing in the industry, and also requires partnerships that enable success in the face of a changing world. For all of this great information and more, have a look at Data Centre World's infographic below:
