With the signing of documents on Wednesday 23rd November, the municipality of Haarlemmermeer and global data centre provider Digital Realty, officially shook hands on the acquisition of a six acre land parcel adjacent to DRT’s soon-to-open 12 MW data centre site near Schiphol airport. The new property is expected to accommodate up to 24 MW of new IT load, and will connect into Digital Realty’s 70-foot Amsterdam Data Tower.

“Amsterdam is a key connectivity hub,” said Stephen Taylor, Digital Realty’s Vice President, Acquisitions & Investments. “Enlarging our footprint here, we’ll be able to offer powerful new Colocation and Connected Campus products to the EMEA market, as well as to help global businesses optimize their transatlantic data flows.” Today’s signing marks Digital Realty’s eighth investment in the region’s burgeoning IT infrastructure since 2007.

At the signing ceremony, Hoofddorp Alderman, Adam Elzakalai noted, “We’re thrilled with Digital Realty’s strong and growing presence in the Netherland’s technology sector. The planned metro hub will further enhance connectivity in the region and beyond.”

When completed, the new highly connected data centre will offer its customers a 14 MVA power connection to optimize IT performance.
