“A ship in port is safe; but that is not what ships are built for.”
– Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper
Admiral Hopper lived out her words, as we aspire to do at the New Digital Realty. She was one of the first to develop a compiler for the new UNIVAC computers she helped bring to life. She met resistance from those stating that those machines were only meant to do arithmetic, and nothing more. She insisted they could compile other programs and perform functions beyond what the machines’ creators intended. She pushed beyond the world as it was, beyond artificial limits, and asked instead what it could be. And our industry is forever in her debt.
Digital Realty was founded as a dreamer, asking why technology and real estate were not efficiently connected. We helped build an entire industry for companies wishing to focus their capital on their own strategic goals as opposed to the management of their foundations. And while our industry will thankfully never stop changing, we view it as our obligation to venture into new waters, to ensure that the faith our customers place in our expertise is well protected. We dream again, but this time to connect the campuses in our portfolio to the internet gateways that connect the world. And our goal is to change the world.
With the acquisition of Telx, Digital adds robust colocation, strategic network dense connectivity, a vast and open partner ecosystem and unmatched freedom of choice to one of the world’s largest data center footprints. We will enable communities with common interests to take on some of the world’s hardest questions. Our goal is to connect the latent power within these communities to enable our clients to, among other things, attack disease, make commerce safe, protect the wealth of nations and make their strategic dreams real.
The resulting possibilities for business growth, innovation and success are indeed limitless.
In our campuses and gateways, you’ll find the world’s largest cloud providers and our most respected financial institutions. Other customers are reinventing hospitality and transportation, securing the internet from the black hats who want to steal your identity, and oh yes, several are working to cure cancer as well as other pernicious diseases. Some of the world’s largest social networks live at Digital and the acquisition of Telx means we will be able to connect all of these communities, efficiently and securely.
Here is a sample of how some of our incredible customers are already revolutionizing our world:
- Amazing startup Counsyl is revolutionizing genetic testing.
- Global technology leader ARM delivers High Performance Computing AND award winning sustainability.
- Unique provider of community-based services Acacia Network transformed its IT support of a vast array of health, housing, and economic development efforts.
And through our combination we strive to eliminate a nagging uncertainty common to all of our customers’ dreams: the unpredictable future. With Telx, our new product portfolio enables us to take on a customer of virtually any size, regardless of how small you start out or how large you grow. We don’t need to force you into one particular size or resiliency, one form of connectivity over another, or one walled garden as the only solution to your challenges. Our new combination of assets and products lets you choose how big, when to deploy, how to connect and to whom.
We don’t limit your cloud choices or your managed service providers. We don’t stop you from buying your own professional services. We don’t limit your growth and we founded our company on the premise that your success is ours. We believe in working to grow your business as our success has always been linked to the success of our customers.
In short, Digital lets you, be you. No limits.
Revolution can be distinguished from rebellion in the warning given to Louis XVI: ‘No, sire, this is not a rebellion, it is a revolution.’
– Albert Camus, The Rebel: An Essay on Man in Revolt
We look forward to denting the universe again, as OneDigital is a combination of the solid foundational services of one great firm and the effortless customer success driven by another. Quite simply, we feel that this combination is essential as a provider of foundational services to the new digital economy.
Welcome to the New Digital revolution.
