SFR1: A Door to the West Coast

Jeremy S. Dodds
September 15, 2014

Our data centers on the East Coast—especially our data centers in New York and New Jersey—have long provided our customers a host of connectivity options and other services. Telx started on the East Coast, and our presence there reflects that. We’re proud of what we’ve built and take pride in the rich history of our data centers.

We haven’t been on the West Coast as long, but in California and the Pacific Northwest, we’re just as committed to providing customers with those great connectivity options and services to help grow their businesses. Over on the West Coast, our SFR1 data center located in San Francisco, California is a prime example of the new approach we’re taking to that important market.

If San Francisco, California was its own country, it would rank as the world’s 19th largest economy at $535 billion. As we note on our data center info page, according to the San Francisco Center for Economic Development, worker productivity in the Bay Area is double that of the national average, while producing more patents than anywhere else in the country and attracting 36% of the nation’s total venture capital investment in dollars. With 1,900 tech companies in San Francisco, we think it’s safe to say that having a presence in Silicon Valley is equally as important as having a presence on the East Coast.

Our SFR1 data center at 200 Paul Avenue—south of downtown—has everything you need in a colocation provider, especially one on the West Coast, including some of the following:

  • Seismic rating for earthquakes
  • Access to dozens of leading domestic and international carriers
  • Physical connection points to the world’s telecommunications networks and backbones
  • Access to both Asia and the East Coast
  • High carrier density—useful for reaching north in the U.S. and to our other facilities on the West Coast, including our industry-leading PRT1 in Portland
  • 2N UPS redundancy, and N+1 generator and cooling redundancy
  • Location in a prime market for tech (and other) companies

San Francisco is one of the largest colocation markets in the U.S., and that’s no accident. Having a presence in this market puts you next to one of the best environments for innovation in the entire world, and gives you access to a large number of facilities and connection points for networks around the world.

Our history on the West Coast may not be as rich as it is on the East Coast, but our commitment to quality service and business growth remains the same there as elsewhere. For industry-leading capacity, connections, and capabilities, Telx is a great provider—no matter where you are in the United States.
